Atlanta, I think, doesn't have enough to climb back into it. It seems like it will come down to a tiebreaker, providing Tampa Bay wins in Carolina.
The Jets have a tough game at Tennessee next week. But then they host the Broncos, Buffalo, Miami, and go on the road against the bottom of the barrel. The Pats go to Miami and host Pittsburgh the next two weeks and host Arizona later on.
Strangely enough, the Dolphins have the same record as the Pats, one game back, and have a pretty schedule. Obviously their next game is crucial (Pats), but until they play the Jets at the end, the worst they have is against a .500 team in Buffalo. But... I don't see them winning that game in the cold.
Assuming the Jets can win out after Tennessee...
The Rangers, while a contender for the Cup, don't feel like THE team. They'll be two or three most likely, but not one. The others are solid teams riding decent streaks and stars that just don't have the combination of depth, drive, and quality for such a long run. Washington, for instance, just doesn't feel deep enough despite being held up by someone like Ovie. They'll be thinking about getting hot at the right time come Cup time.
And it's striking looking at the current standings: San Jose has 29 points on 18 games, the Rangers have 26 on 19 games, and Detroit has 25 on 16 games.
I say why not the Celtics? They got past the hard part, being a first year clashing of the egos and struggling down the stretch, they're the obvious choice... and I don't really see anyone in the east that "impresses" me.
Seriously, another game they should have won, another game of stupid penalties, turnovers... I hate Ohio sports.
It will take some sort of scrutiny leading to public awareness... maybe after we aren't distracted by economics and elections.
