    Spain marched into the final of Euro 2008 in style by comfortably beating Russia 3-0 in a rain-soaked Vienna. After the 4-1 defeat in their opening match, few expected Russia to surrender so easily again, but in the end their failure to contain the free-flowing Spanish play, as well as their inability to impose themselves on the game, was their undoing.

    Possible. Back to 2003, Israel had warned that it prepared to take unilateral military action against Iran if the international community failed to stop any development of nuclear weapons at the country's atomic energy facilities.

    Sichuan's economy, like other provinces in China's western region, lags behind China's wealthier coastal regions. The province's industrial output only accounts for 3.9% of China's gross domestic product, according to Merrill Lynch (MER). Sichuan has a population of more than 87 million, roughly the same as Vietnam, and many Sichuanese either stay at home to farm or go to China's manufacturing bases in the southern and eastern regions to work.

    However the China Petro had cut the gas field production and thus will increase the inflation in food and energy supplies. The quake will further raise the inflation in the entire E. Asia region.

    Commented on:   Market Crash is Coming
    Based on my observation on Dow Jones index, the market has not been adjusted to reflect the recent inflation. Take a look here: http://finance.google.com/finance?chd...;

    The burst of tech bubble + 911 caused a deep drop at the end of 2001, and then, after a little revival, a deeper drop at the end of 2002. The adjustment was over -30%. The recent slump of Dow Jones was about -15% (from the highest point in 2007 to march 2008). This time the recession was triggered by more fundamental problems: high debt / poor credit ratings, housing bubble, and high inflation etc. The source is far more serious than the problems in 2001.

    The market is expected to have a BIG adjustment. If it remains BULL now, there should be a bigger BEAR later - just as what we could observed in 2001 and 2002.

    Although China's economy is far from the standard of US, the recession of US may bring US to the lowest point ever.

    Commented on:   Seoul: Classify Dogs as Food?
    The western culture, generally, accepts that dogs are friends. In Asia, dogs can be friends or meat. We cannot say that is wrong for Korean to eat dog meat. However, if I were the government, I would evaluate the potential economical benefits of having dogs as pets, or classifying dogs as meat (so that they may massively manufacture all kids of dog meat). IMO, it is very likely that the pets industry is far bigger than dog-meat industry.

    With the minority government and recent economical boost, Stephen Harper demonstrated his effective leading style against the opposite parties. At the same time, all other parties struggle with lacking of leadership. For example, Dion is very incapable to be the opposite leader.

    Just some more background info I found:

    Kentucky is one of 38 states in the United States that sanctions the death penalty for certain crimes. Criminals convicted after March 31, 1998 are always executed by lethal injection; those convicted before this date may opt for the electric chair. Only two people have been executed in Kentucky since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstituted the practice in 1976. The most notable execution in Kentucky, however, was that of Rainey Bethea on August 14, 1936. Bethea was publicly hanged in Owensboro for the rape and murder of Lischia Edwards. Irregularities with the execution led to this becoming the last public execution in the United States.

    Even though lethal injections does not cause any pain in the convicted, the practise may not help to reduce the crime rate at all. The root problem is in our culture - more deliberating individualism. The practise may also make a wrong judgment irreversible. In addition, the Supreme Court is also aware that death penalty is not practiced by all states. The irregularities make hard to apply death sentence to any Americans.

    Joining NATO is much easier than joining EU. NATO serves to establish a system of collective defense whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party. NATO even supports sharing of nuclear weapons among member countries without nuclear weapons.

    It is fairly easy for Ukraine and Georgia to tell NATO: YES, I need your money and please come to my land. In contrast, EU requires the members to reach a mature level of economy system, which is hard to achieve by most East European countries. Joining NATO is the first step to join EU.
