Not by 2009; blanket licenses are still a long way off.

For the same reason that minidiscs weren't a hit; why bother having a load of little bits of storage medium floating around as well as a device? Jam it all in one thing. The key will be flash drives with more capacity, but that are physically smaller. These will allow devices to be smaller and cheaper, and with quicker access (none of that loading aftwork in coverflow mode).

What's worth thinking about in relation to pre-rolls is that YouTube's gone for the in video overlays for the moment. You can see them on some partner videos (i.e. those that have been approved). With this in mind I'd say they're not likely to change their monetisation strategy just yet.

Forgot to mention that obviously the Honda's not going to be mass produced; but that's not part of the question!

Well the Honda will be available by 2015, but only about 250 of them.

They're likely to cost less than $50,000 because you lease them for about $500 a month.

That means it'll cost $50,000 dollars to own it for eight years and four months.

By then I'm sure a better/cheaper alternative will exist.

Besides, there's an economic incentive to produce green cars now; cheaper fuel prices.

People are pretty much blind to banners and HP takeovers, so pre-rolls are one way to go. But Google are still in a bit of a dither about it, so it's unlikely it will happen before Q3.

Besides, you want more immersive campaigns. Pre-rolls are a bit old school and smack of offline guys trying to figure out online through making the latter more like the former. It's the standard 'shout at people' approach of offline. Tell 'em what they want, rather than listening.

YouTube need to be a bit more imaginative with their monetizing.
