Yahoo Agrees the Acquisition Deal with Microsoft by Sep 2008?
banker ( Score Rank: #77 based on predictions in the last 30 days ) banker  |  was scored on 03-Sep-2008 (79 days ago)
Yahoo! Inc. President Susan Decker said the Internet company is still in talks about combinations with Microsoft Corp., amid efforts to boost sales and win a fight with shareholders for control of the board. Chief Executive Officer Jerry Yang faces increasing pressure to sell or step aside from Icahn, who says a Microsoft acquisition is the only way to crack Google Inc.'s dominance in Internet search traffic. Yang insists the company can fuel growth on its own, making Yahoo worth more than Microsoft's bid of $47.5 billion, or $33 a share.

So will the couples sign a deal by Sep 2008?

Do we need to predict anymore? Microsoft already said no to Yahoo.

While a sale may be an eventual thing to happen, September is a very short time-frame for it. I think there will be a lot more wiggling and bargaining before an actual merger...

As for a MS + Yahoo force, how would it be any stronger than Google? Last time I checked, Google outruns the MS and Yahoo combined by a long shot.

Yahoo won't sell out, not now. MS star is fading already. Icahn is powerful, but not that powerful. Yahoo would want a strong partner, not one clinging to its monopoly rent with nothing in the portfolio that has much future potential. Two years ago, things would have been different.

if they can't sign a deal by Sep, there will be no point for the acquisition anymore.
