WoW bot maker sued by Blizzard. Who will win?
Wallace ( Score Rank: #12 based on predictions in the last 30 days ) Wallace  |  closed on 27-Apr-2008 (125 days ago)
Renowned game developer Blizzard has filed suit against a man named Michael Donnelly, the creator of a software program that allows users to automate play of the company's popular title, World of WarCraft. Blizzard is arguing that Donnelly's tool, entitled "MMO Glider," infringes on the End User License Agreement (EULA) of WoW. Donnelly contends that because the game client is not copied, it does not infringe on Blizzard's copyright. Blizzard has countered by saying that the tool actually copies the game into RAM in order to circumvent WoW's anti-cheat protection.

Since the case is still in its early stage, it is unknown at the point how long it will take to settle to the case. I will keep this a casual prediction and close this in a month.

this is stupid, of course they won't win, the EULA says no cheating but the consequence of breaking the EULA is disconnection from their server and system. There is no monetary damage by the bot creator. Its not like the bot creator created a program that lets him log on illegally to the server. Its Blizzard's job to police against bots, not bring real life police to shut down bot makers

Of course Blizzard will win, and they won't settle. They need to set an example to the bot making community.

The WoW End User License Agreement (EULA) is pretty clear you cannot cheat the system. So the chance of Donnelly winning is low.
