Like them or hate them, but the Canadian government led by the Conservatives party will be making its second official apology to a group of people who were unfairly treated by the government in the past.

Following the solemn apology to the Chinese-Canadians who were charged a discriminatory head tax to immigrate into Canada, the conservative government will issue another official apology on Wednesday, June 11. This time, prime minister Stephen Harper will apologize for the government's neglect that led to the many cases of harassment at residential schools, boarding institutions where first nations children were forced to enroll in back in the day.

While some view this gesture as a PR move, at least this government is giving the public an official apology (wish the same can happen in China).

Do you think Canada will issue such an apology to another group (I can't think of one right now) before the end of the year? (Please name the group as a comment too)

Have they apologized to Japanese group? I believed the Japanese-Canadians were also under harassment during the war time.

I don't see it happening. For one thing, I don't think there are too many of such groups that the government need to apologize to as a state. And even if there is, i think the process will take quite some time - as far as I know, there are no buzz currently of any groups trying to seek justice for past wrongs...
