What is ZiiTrend?
Would Liberal leader Stephane Dion step down/be ousted in Q2?
black-shoulder ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) black-shoulder  |  was scored on 10-Jul-2008 (498 days ago)
A recent poll showed that the federal Liberal party has slipped into a distant 3rd place behind the governing Conservatives and the separatist party the Bloc. Popularity in Quebec city, Liberal leader Stephane Dion's home town, is even worse: the Liberals are tied with the NDP with just 15% of support. Many are blaming the leadership (or lack there of) of Stephane Dion.

With its sagging fortune and perhaps certain defeat should a federal election occur, do you think Stephane Dion will step down or be ousted by his party before the end of Q2 in 2008?

He is still in charge of Liberal. Well ... he suddenly swings the public attention to climate change and actively promotes his carbon-tax program. Will the new idea buy him more votes and support inside the party?

For the time being, there is no replacement For Dion in Liberal Party. Kicking him out may further weaken the political ability as a opposite party. However, I believe the party is consolidating to nominate a new leader in the second half of 2008.

The Liberals may be trailing badly in the polls in Quebec, but the last by-election result was acceptable by their standards: winning 3 of 4 from traditional Liberal strongholds mean they are struggling, but are not completely down in the dumps. There are pressures to remove Dion, but there is no one who can step up either... so I think Dion will stay to lose the next federal election before he is ousted and someone who has serious potential come in to take over.

Oust is usually not an option since it destroys the unity of a party. Dion didn't demonstrate strong leader as a opp. leader. He will soon step down.
