Confusion is added to the rapidly growing mystery surrounding UN's special envoy to Niger Robert Fowler. The Canadian, along with at least one more diplomat, was abducted earlier in the week.
Front des Forces de Redressement, a rebel group in Niger, initially claimed on its website that the diplomats were abducted by the group in response to the Canada's support to the Niger government. The same website, however, made another announcement the next day, denying that taking hostages would be a part of the group's strategy to make their voices heard. The group has called for the peaceful release of Fowler and the other diplomat, to "Canada or to the UN" as soon as possible. All the confusion set aside, do you think Fowler would be returned to safety before the end of the year?
