Will your employer buy iPhone's for business use in 2008?

"With an audience reportedly populated with 1,000 Apple (NSDQ:AAPL) engineers, the crowd went wild on Monday when CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the new iPhone 3G at the Worldwide Developers' Conference in San Francisco. Jobs preached to the choir about all the cool new features that consumers are sure to gobble up and oh yeah, there's some stuff for you corporate types too.

The iPhone 3G includes new iPhone 2.0 software with both the iPhone SDK and key enterprise features such as support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, which offers over-the-air push e-mail, contact and calendar syncing as well as remote wipe and Cisco (NSDQ:CSCO) IPsec VPN for encrypted access to corporate networks."

I'm new to the ZiiTrend forum, so I'm not sure how this works when the question is user-dependent. My employer began offering the iPhone 3G as an option to employees beginning on August 1, 2008. Caveat, employer would only cover the cost of the iPhone if employee was scheduled for an upgrade, anyway (every 2 years). Otherwise, employer would support the iPhone (and monthly cost), but not the cost of the actual phone. I just got a new Blackberry last Fall, so I didn't get an iPhone (and won't spend the money on it because we'll see what else comes out by the time I'm due for an upgrade). In any event, some of my colleagues are currently using the new iPhone for business use. So the answer is "yes."

Not much of a prediction at this point, though, is it. Not sure when this question was first posted, but my employer announced its intent to support the iPhone back in late June 2008.

No, my employer is too cheap to buy us fancy gadget like this.

btw, it is not the gadget itself that cost a lot, it is the monthly plan. If the community prediction is "Yes", I will show this page to my boss.

I doubt it... only administrators at my work place are given company phones, and they have been using the Blackberry for quite some time now. I don't see a need for them to go fashion-conscious and switch to the i-phone - the blackberry, for all I know, is masterful in handling e-mails, and that's the most important feature for them.

No. But the new version of iPhone supporting the Exchange server definitely makes it a good choice.
