Whether you are an environmentalist, or you just want to save on your next electricity bill, or you are a technology geek who loves to play with wires and silicon panels, you might be interested in installing solar panels at your home rooftop. I am not sure if installing solar panels will actually save you a lot because you still have to bear the cost of panel, installation and maintenance. But one thing I am sure is that it is greener energy source.

Even Toyota decides to try it out on their Prius hybrid car:

So, will you install solar panels at your home in 2008?

I consider solar hot water systems to be a much more economical and efficient solution to reducing electrical bills. That'd be what I'd install first.

Solar panel on Prius might make sense in terms of fuel saving But wouldn't it limit the choice of the color of the car? My assumption is that all solar panels are dark in color.

    Not now.

My uncle uses solar panels to warm up his indoor swimming pool. So for him, that sounds pretty useful. For me, I need to earn enough to afford an indoor swimming pool first.

I wonder what the life span is for these roof-top solar panels I can buy from hardware store.

Not likely in 2008, but down the road, it seems like a pretty good idea.
