Until I can get an electric car I prefer a plug in hybrid. This gives you an electric motor and also a gasoline motor when you need it. Most car manufactures will sell them in 2010. When most people use the plug in hybrids we will cut oil imports by half.

      Sorry,Corret it.
I won't buy it,because I think gas price will stable, and I think hybrid's car tech. still not maturing.

The hybrid technology should be pretty mature by now. Lots of taxis in my city is using Toyota Prius. And if it is not mature, I am sure the taxi companies won't use it.

No, I am still waiting for more manufacturers to offer the hybrid choice. So I am not forced to buy from Toyota. My understanding is that the hybrid technology works the best with Toyota's vehicles.

I actually am considering my options here... not just because of gas price, but because I feel that, as the hybrid technology matures, the price for a hybrid vehicle will hopefully go down to a point where I can afford to pay a little extra off the bat for a more environmentally-friendly choice...

      Good for you!

My family is a bit more conservative and still sticking with gasoline cars. I actually did some math for my dad who was considering both Corolla and Prius. With my dad's driving usage (30km/day), he can save about $4500 CDN of gasoline in 10 years if he goes with Prius (hybrid). This is assuming the gas price will stay the same. But Prius is at lest $10,000 more expensive than Corolla.

So, he ended up getting Corolla instead. I can see why the main reason of buying a hybrid car is not cost alone.
