Will the new Google image search work as well as its text search?

Image search has always been a challenge for Google. So far, it hasn't been able to do refine its image search algorithm to have the same accuracy as its text search. One attempt was introducing the Google image labeler for appending image meta data by end users. http://images.google.com/...

Now, Google is about to introduce a new image ranking algorithm (visualrank), that is suppose to be better than the current algorithm:

On Thursday at the International World Wide Web Conference in Beijing, two Google scientists presented a paper describing what the researchers call VisualRank."
