black-shoulder ( Score Rank: #6 based on predictions in the last 30 days ) black-shoulder  |  was scored on 31-Mar-2008 (246 days ago)
Hong Kong has been hit with another round of deadly flu epidemic. Two young girls have died as a result of complications from the flu. The eerie memories of S.A.R.S. appear to be re-appearing...

Do you think this round of flu epidemic will spread overseas like S.A.R.S. did? (Let's hope not)

There are cases of the bird flu mixing with the human flu in southern China, but as far as the disease being spread to oversea countries, thankfully, it did not happen this time.

In many ways, the antibiotic-resistant bacteria is a creation of human ignorance - flu is caused by a virus, and cannot be treated by an antibiotic (which actually targets the cell walls of bacteria). The mis-use of antibiotics to flu cause bacteria in our bodies and in nature to mutate, and now they are drug-resistant. When mixed with the flu, especially for a child, the conditions become extremely dangerous.

seems the flu can only attack kids. it will spread to the other part of the world when a sick kid travels and in touch with another kid. so the chance is there but not very high.

The most horrible strength of the flu is mixed with anti-drug bacteria, then a man can be killed within one day. So fat, there is no sign of spreading overseas.

Another 7-year-old boy has died in Hong Kong due to complications from this flu. More than 100 students in the school have gotten sick as well... it seems like the outbreak is still far from over.

Hong Kong airport is a travel hub in southern asia, so it very likely the flu will spread to, let's say, North America. Since the population density in NA is not as high as in Hong Kong, the impact won't be as serious.

With people traveling all over the world, epidemics are unlikely going to stay at one location anymore. Let's just hope that the outbreak would not result in anything remotely as serious as SARS in 2003...
