Will The European Commission decide to block Google's acqusition of Doubleclick?
Wallace ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) Wallace  |  was scored on 11-Mar-2008 (735 days ago)
EU antitrust regulators launched on Tuesday an in-depth investigation into Google's takeover of the online advertising firm DoubleClick over concerns the deal could threaten competition. The European Commission said it would rule by April 2 on whether to allow the deal, which is contested by technology rivals such as Microsoft and Yahoo as well as privacy advocates. So, will EC block the deal?

FTC just approved it. The next is EC. The result will definitely affect its share price.

I wonder what will happen if FTC approves it and then EC blocks it. That will be interesting. But troublesome for Google.

Absolutely, Google is getting too big. And someone has to do something about it.

I wonder how the block will work. I thought Google has already acquired Doubleclick, so what exactly is it blocking? Let's say the investigation takes a year, does it mean Google cannot execute the merger until after a year? Anyone knows how this works?

I am sure Google will manage to get thru the EC. Online advertising is still a young industry. It might be too early to say this acquisition touches on antitrust issue.
