    Yes they did. China made a small but significant change in the way it refers to Taiwan. It agreed to use the name Zhonghua Taipei, or "Chinese Taipei," a reference to Taiwan's capital, instead of Zhongguo Taipei, which is traditionally used by mainland Chinese and could be translated as "China's Taipei."

    "China has handled this issue much better than expected. Nobody thought Beijing would be so flexible," said Chong-pin Lin, president of the Foundation on International and Cross-Strait Studies in Taiwan. "The pro-independence advocates have found much less to make a big issue about."

      China isn't exactly flexible in this case. It is not like they can ban Taiwan from the games completely. So they basically leave Taiwan with two choices. Either join the game as a city or don't join at all.

      At the end it doesn't really matter. The games should be all about sports. As long as Taiwan athletes can compete in the games, I think everyone should be happy.

    The gestures before the presidential election, the threat to pull back the team, is nothing but a political gesture. Now that Ma has won, I don't see how Taiwan will pull out, unless massive clamdown on the Tibet situation continues and gets worse...
