Will Sprint launch its WiMax plan on time by the end of April 2008?

A lot of people say WiMax is the future wireless Internet standard for mobile devices soon to replace WiFi (outside of home/office). And Sprint is the first company to offer a commercial plan soon. Will they be able to launch its WiMax plan by the end of April like they promised?

Sprint is running late on its WiMAX network, which will now go commercial in the summer, and not Apr, as originally pencilled. Sprint's WiMAX service, branded Xohm, has been in trials in Chicago, Baltimore and Washington, where it's apparently performing less well than anticipated.

I am not convinced the world is ready for WiMax until one of the major computer manufacturers start selling built-in WiMax laptop.

Sprint hasn't announced a list of cities for this roll out. Their employees in Chicago, Baltimore and Washington D.C. are using it now. So, these cities should be in the list. I am thinking LA and NYC will be supported as late as Q4 2008.

No direct competition at this point. At least not reported by the media. It not unusual to see companies slipping the deadline.
