    During recession, company will look for cheaper IT solution providers. And it does open new doors to opensource companies. However, it doesn't mean it will make their job easier. There will still be more companies fighting for these reduced contracts. I agree this is the best chance to gain market share though.

    Opensource companies might be able to gain more market share during a recession due to the lower cost structure of opensource software. However, I don't see how these service companies can make more money by selling service while customers are cutting back in IT spending.
