Will Northern countries agree on how to split up North Pole by Sept 2009?
Tony ( Score Rank: #12 based on predictions in the last 30 days ) Tony  |  will close on 01-Sep-2009 (328 days from now)
In 2007, Russia has trigger an oil rush between Northern countries to claim the North Pole, by claiming sovereignty on new territory in the North Pole. Russia, Canada, Denmark, Norway and US are all joining in the claim. Let's predict if these countries will reach a new boundary agreement by the end of summer 2009 (Sept 1st 2009).

All this oil rush will probably lead to more military spending for US and Canada in the coming years. Watch out, tax payers. But then, the increase of military presence can be a good investment if there is really enough oil there to justify it.

According to news, it is natural gas, and possibly lots of oil. I guess no one can say for sure at this point. But it doesn't hurt to grab as much land as you can just in case.

mainly oil and possibly rare ore.
They are actually petty sure about Oil as it might share with oil pockets in Alaska area.

I think US has little to say in this, because the coastline of US in the north pole is very small. The argument is mostly between Canada, Denmark and Russia. But US has done something recently to try to "scientifically prove" they own part of the North Pole by sending out a crew of scientists to measure the undersea coastline. So US is trying hard to join the oil rush as well.

Looks like it is a start of another cold war between these Northern countries. I really doubt they will reach an agreement as soon as 2009. This kind of stuff usually takes years to settle. I just hope they pay more attention on how to fix the North Pole global warming issue, and less attention on how to split it up.

I think it could be possible the cause of World War 3!!!
Just curious why US say nothing about it?
