A new offer is possible. I predict it will be a smaller offer though.

Microsoft will take a passive stance while yahoo tries to muddle thru, Microsoft isn't thru with the possibility of acquiring yahoo, and sees the opportunity to buy it for less, they were willing to up the ante in late negotations, but didn't like having their feet being held to the fire, so its sink or swim for yahoo over the next few months, but Microsoft will come back after the board meeting, and after the shareholders get a chance to rake management over the coals, They do not want to lose key design & software Engineers, and will buy Yahoo for 25 to 28 not 31. New offer in Late August.

I have predicted a while ago that Microsoft will not up their offer and will pull out for its attempt to acquire Yahoo... now that MS has said as much... why would I change my prediction? :p

it's better to wait till Yahoo's next earning report - then its share price falls horribly.

I don't think so. Microsoft and Yahoo have put enough resourced into the negotiation. It is time to execute plan B, not re-executing plan A and hoping it will work out again.

I think it is possible Microsoft will give it another try when the price is lower. I think Yahoo's bargaining power diminishes as time goes. And I don't see Microsoft successfully executing a hostile takeover of Yahoo in the coming weeks.
