Microsoft just announced that they will make the Windows side of Live online multi-player gaming free, which originally cost $7.99 monthly. This move is probably caused by the the feedback from the gaming community that online multi-player gaming should be free. In the announcement, Microsoft decides to keep the XBox Live Gold subscription plan. So, users will still have to pay for online multiplayer games on XBox 360.
