Will Microsoft announce a competitor framework as Adobe AIR in Q1 2008?
goog ( Score Rank: #30 based on predictions in the last 30 days ) goog  |  was scored on 01-Apr-2008 (245 days ago)
"There's something in the air, and this time, it's not from Apple. Adobe announced today the official 1.0 release of Adobe AIR, its technology for merging web and desktop application development, along with Flex 3, its open source application development framework. With AIR and Flex, the company says that it is staying on top of the development of rich Internet applications (RIA) while enabling developers to create apps for both the web and the desktop without having to create entirely new code for each."

Obviously, Adobe is trying to get into the Microsoft desktop app market. Will Microsoft counter Adobe AIR release with a competitor framework/product soon?

I suppose Silverlight is only comparable to Adobe Flash. AIR is a Rich Internet App framework. I don't think Microsoft has anything similar at this point.

MS is currently pushing Live! fairly hard... while Live! seems quite different from what Adobe is trying to do with AIR, I don't think it would be financially sound for MS to try to do too much more at this time, especially in Q1 of '08.

not a bad idea. perhaps, after merging with Yahoo!, MS will have a bigger pool of talent in web framework.

I suppose MS cannot and should not support too many frameworks that serve the same purpose. .NET framework is what MS has, and it is going to stick with it for a long long time.
