Will James Cameron's Avatar film perform well at the box office?
ticilos2 ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) ticilos2  |  will close on 31-Dec-2009 (53 days from now)
In 1995, director James Cameron wrote an 80-page scriptment for Avatar.[8] Cameron said his inspiration was "every single science fiction book I read as a kid", particularly striving to update the style of Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter series. Cameron saw his story as being about how Western civilizations supplant indigenous cultures, in either active genocidal or passive ways. In Avatar, humanity extends that to other planets.[8] In August 1996, Cameron announced that after completing Titanic, he would film Avatar, which would make use of "synthetic", or computer-generated, actors.[20] The project would cost $100 million and involve at least six actors in leading roles "who appear to be real but do not exist in the physical world".[21] Special effects house Digital Domain, with whom Cameron has a partnership, joined the project, which would begin production in the summer of 1997.

Will his film be succesful?

This movie is so incredibly expensive that it would need to generate excitement similar to Dark Knight to pay off. From what I've seen, this movie is going to be Delgo with the awkward aliens rendered in an unnecessary third dimension.

It's too late in the game, too exotic with its huge CGI Alien worlds, wants to be Sci-fi and love story. Performing well is a matter of definition, of course, does this mean: no bomb at the box office? just a break even, or little better or a huge Darknknight / titanic hit? That I doubt. By the time it comes out, there will have been enough othr 3D movies.

Think it will open big, very big, which will ensure success, but Titanic it won't be.
