Israel, which itself is believed to have stockpiled about 200 nuclear weapons, has accused Iran of seeking to build its own arsenal in June 2008. Iran has denied the charges, saying its nuclear program is geared toward generating electricity, not bombs. Iran's military leaders have threatened to attack Israel's Dimona nuclear reactor if the Jewish state takes any military actions against Iran. Iran is equipped with ballistic missiles with a range of 1,200 miles capable of reaching Israel and U.S. bases across the Mideast. Its upgraded version of Shahab-3 and Ashoura are both capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

Financially and strategically, I think the US really want to do away with Iran.
I understand that the Afgan war and the Iraqi war are both not going well, and there is immense political pressure against starting another war, but with the ever-increasing price in oil, there is actually pressure to attack Iran (of course they will use other excuses, which fool nobody) to create a crescent belt of middle-eastern countries that can ship oil to both Europe and the States.
And the Republicans won't be too hesitant to start another war, and leave Obama to clean up the mess afterwards. It may even be a strategic move to make sure Obama can't get out of a mess, and the Republicans thus would have a chance to come back in 2012.

I am not so sure the nuclear program has anything to do with this possible attack.
