Iran will send 54 athletes to the Olympic Games in Beijing, including three women who will appear with Islamic outfits. The three women Homa Hosseini, Najmeh Abtin and Sara Khosh-Jamal- Fekri will compete in the fields of rowing, archery and taekwondo, respectively. The three women will compete in China in line with Iran's regulations upon which all women must wear gowns and scarves for hiding body contour and hair.

Iran's main chances are, however, in their traditional strong sports of weightlifting, wrestling and taekwondo. Discus thrower Ehsan Hadadi also appears to be a medal contender.
