Will House pass Bush Spy Bill?
Thinkr ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) Thinkr  |  was scored on 10-Jul-2008 (499 days ago)
In two political showdowns Thursday, Democrats in the House refused to bow to presidential pressure to pass a broad surveillance law and voted to hold two Bush aides in contempt of Congress. President Bush, in remarks meant to spur House Democrats into accepting a controversial new bill that would expand the government's ability to spy on Americans, warned that the country faced terror strikes that would make September 11 "pale by comparison." Its most controversial provision would prevent Americans from suing phone companies that helped the administration spy on them since the White House surveillance program was instituted in 2001. Mr. Bush has made immunity from civil prosecution for the telecoms a must-have element for revamping the nation's surveillance laws, repeatedly saying he would veto any bill that does not exempt telecoms from lawsuits.

On July 10, President George W. Bush won final congressional approval on Wednesday of a bill granting liability protection to telecommunication companies that took part in the warrantless domestic spying program he began after the September 11 attacks. So spy bill will continue to live - American citizens, please smile !!

May 22 - House and Senate negotiators are closing in on a deal to resolve a years-long battle over legislation governing domestic spying powers. In what could be a major breakthrough, the deal would resolve one of the thorniest issues: whether telecommunications companies should get immunity for cooperating with government surveillance after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Passing more spy bills will be very sad for Americans. Not many democracy spies its citizens as much as US gov.
