Will Google offer iTune type music store in China before 2010?
oilman ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) oilman  |  will close on 01-Jan-2010 (41 days from now)
Google just announced a free music download forum exclusive to China. This forum is ad-supported, and let users download music for free. If you read enough about online privacy, you might know that online music purchase is non-existence in China. And people there download all their music online without proper licensing. But this new Google service is going to change all that. Talks are ongoing with Sony BMG and Warner Music Group Corp. to become partners.

Here is the prediction. Since Google is one of the first few sites in China who attempts to legalize online music download in China, do you think Google will offer iTune type music store in China before 2010?

Google is an ad-based company, I can't imagine them changing their business model and getting into direct competition with Apple, among others.

Google should make another legal free music site here in the US. I don't mind them popping up ads. But I guess $.99 per song isn't that much.

Yes, it is possible. But I expect Apple to do it first. And Google is more likely to stick with the advertisement business model.
