Google, Yahoo and MySpace just announced that they will join up and forge the OpenSocial Foundataion, an attempt to provide an industry standard for open social apps in the future.

    No, at this point, Facebook still refuses to join the OpenSocial Foundation. This is very easy to understand. Facebook is big enough (has enough traffic) to dominate the direction of social network at this point. So why listen to other companies who are not doing as well in the same arena? Maybe when Facebook loses market share, they will consider joining.

    What is so special about the Google OpenSocial thing anyway? Is it a big deal to join the new foundation? As long as the foundation doesn't require Facebook to change its platform, then it doesn't hurt to join.

    I am sure they will send some representatives over to monitor what the competitors are doing. But I don't see Facebook following the OpenSocial spec closely.
