What is ZiiTrend?
Will direct flight services be available between China and Taiwan in 2008?
black-shoulder ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) black-shoulder  |  closed on 31-Dec-2008 (325 days ago)
Ma Ying-jeow, after being elected the president of Taiwan, indicated that charter flight services will be available between Taiwan and mainland China in July of this year. There are also many indications that Ma wants to establish more ties with mainland China, especially in the areas of economic connections, to help boost the sagging economic picture in Taiwan.

Having said that, direct flight services by a commercial airline is a rather different story. Do you think there will be a commercial airline company that would manage to be granted the rights to connect Taiwan and mainland China?

China and Taiwan will probably set up more sea freight routes first. That can help improve the Taiwan economy right away which should be of highest priority at this point.

While I hope that direct flight services would eventually happen between Taiwan and mainland China, I think 2008 is too much of a rush.

Airplane flight routes actually involve highly sensitive national security issues (I don't really understand it, but that's what I've heard). If you look back from not too long ago, Oasis HK was not allowed to fly to London through Russia, and here's a HK company that is in no harm's way of anybody. I think it will happen eventually, but not too quickly.

how about both Taiwan & Chinese airlines can connect the two lands at the same time? isn't it a fair deal for both entities?

A company from China is more likely. You know how Chinese government loves to be in control. Probably get the Chinese airlines to connect the flight instead. And then followed by Taiwanese companies.

Ma is moving fast. I think it will do Taiwan good to have all the traveling, trading and logistic to China set up asap. And it will probably be initialed from the Taiwan side.
