Ma Ying-jeow, after being elected the president of Taiwan, indicated that charter flight services will be available between Taiwan and mainland China in July of this year. There are also many indications that Ma wants to establish more ties with mainland China, especially in the areas of economic connections, to help boost the sagging economic picture in Taiwan.
Having said that, direct flight services by a commercial airline is a rather different story. Do you think there will be a commercial airline company that would manage to be granted the rights to connect Taiwan and mainland China?

Airplane flight routes actually involve highly sensitive national security issues (I don't really understand it, but that's what I've heard). If you look back from not too long ago, Oasis HK was not allowed to fly to London through Russia, and here's a HK company that is in no harm's way of anybody. I think it will happen eventually, but not too quickly.
