Will Dalai Lama's successor be chosen in 2008?
MasterMind ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) MasterMind  |  closed on 01-Jan-2009 (324 days ago)
Analysts say the 72-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader is considering breaking this centuries-old tradition of having the "living Budha" chosen after his death. He is considering to have his successor chosen by the Tibentans, the people. Some say this is a attempt to prevent China from choosing its own candidate. So, do you think his successor will be chosen in 2008?

Almost no chance. The whole point is that the new Dali Lama is considered the living reincarnation of his predecessors. Kinda hard to be reincarnated while you're still alive.

no this guy is still super active outside china. for his successor, i guess the communist gov will have lots of say this time. they definitely don't want another Dalai Lama touring around the world.

That's funny. Two Dalai Lama is better than one. Having your clone touring the world at the same time will double the productivity.

Dalai Lama is just saying it. I don't think he is in that kind of a rush to pick a successor .

So, Dalai is trying to introduce democracy into the living Budha selection process? Interesting. That would go into the history book.

No way. This is just anther message from Dalai Lama to ask China to keep their hands off his successor, nothing more.

I think Dalai Lama is still young as a spiritual leader. He is warning the Chinese government in front of the whole world. It is not that easy to break this century old tradition.
