Will Cuil (search engine) be acquired in 2008?
zhou-laoli ( Score Rank: #527 based on predictions in the last 30 days ) zhou-laoli  |  will close on 01-Jan-2009 (29 days from now)
Cuil (pronounced "cool", according to the creators) is a search engine that organizes web pages by content and displays relatively long entries along with thumbnail pictures for many results. It claims to have a larger index than any other search engine, with about 120 billion web pages. It went live and made a big marketing splash on July 28, 2008.

Cuil, of course, is far from reaching the success of Google. Google is no longer a search engine but it has offered many online features (such as gmap, gmail). The most possible future of Cuil is to be acquired? Will MS acquire it? Who else?

MS already has a search engine and wants Yahoo (for many reasons). AOL is dead and simply not in a position to acquire anyone. And with Google having shown just how much you can profit from a good search engine, I doubt anyone will offer enough just now. It's wait-and-see on both sides.

Microsoft doesn't need another search engine. It's Live search engine might not be the best, but I don't see how Cuil technology is any better. AOL might find it more useful.

Sorry, I mean "Cuil", not "Cool".
