Will Asus stop selling Linux version of its Eee PC in 2008?

At the CeBIT convention in Germany the other week, Asus unveiled a new edition of their flash-based Eee sub-notebook PC, nominally running a custom version of Xandros Linux. New models, Asus said, will run Linux ... and now Windows XP.

Asus probably negotiated a good deal with Microsoft in bulk. Do you think the Windows version of Eee PC will sell so well that Asus decides to drop the Linux version of Eee PC completely?

fyi. here is the Eee PC web site:

I agree with AhDrew000 - with M$ putting pressure on ASUS and other manufacturers to use windows on higher spec machines (more than a 20GB HDD i believe) - this will cause ASUS to shift focus on windows, especially as every EEE is getting bigger and bigger (as far as ram and hdd).. i am an avid linux user but as long as the populace is still "new" to it M$ will be able to do sneaky deals...

The Eee PC looks a bit too small to be useful.

One of the innovation of Eee PC is going Linux. It is like going backward if they decide to go for Windows.

I think it will live on, but with focus shifted to the Windows version.

It's a BIG trend to go Linux. If Asus stops selling Linux now, it will lose the field to Dell and others in a long run.

The Eee PC is so cute. The only complaint I have is the screen size. It is way too small in today's standard. The speakers are taking up all the space. If Asus can release a Eee PC with a larger screen, I will get one.

It is quite possible Asus will drop the Linux line by the end of the year.
