I don't believe Apple will join the acquisition race too. But why would Apple go down? Lack of more innovation?

Obviously the core of Apple is its brand, similar to LV, Nike, etc. Although there are many manufacturers of sport shoes, Nike can always survive. Similarly, the legend of Apple will rely on its innovation and prestige brand name. I don't think it would die down in 5 years if the momentum of its brand development lasts.

Apple joining in the fun? Unlikely. This is a very interesting rumor nevertheless.

I suppose Apple fans don't want Microsoft to get all the attention.

I don't want to see that too. But Microsoft is aggressive in online business. They have tons of CASH

Agree. MS is one of the few hi-tech companies with so much cash in hand. I guess this buy-out is one of the biggest in 2008.
