What is ZiiTrend?
Will anything happen during the HK-leg of the Olympic torch relay?

The Olympic torch's world-wide relay will reach Hong Kong on May 2, 2008. While there were many protests and even violence in the early stage of this relay (in England and France), things seem to have settled down somewhat since, without any major incidents. That said, Hong Kong is a world city with people from all over all having access. Who would forget how ugly the HK police looked during the WTO protests where Korean farmers were tear-gased, cornered by riot police, and then stripped butt-naked in the police station for hours?

Do you think anything "wild" will happen during the HK-leg of the relay? If you think something will happen, what will happen?

It's a very funny location eyed by entire world - surely there will be some degree of protests.

Even if you assume that the local population of HK will be peaceful, you have to take into account the potential protest-tourists who may show up. (Betcha that the airlines are being extra zealous in scanning the history/origins of tourists inbound to HK.)
One additional tactic I can see happening is an attempted blockade of the torch runner.

It is unlikely that "Nothing will happen" I am sure the protest will make headlines during the relay.

The fact that the HK police needed to fire tear gas at peaceful protesters during WTO summit a couple years ago, together with is recent history of over-reaction to anything and everything worry me. Protests is a certainty, but how would the police react to the protests when they become emotional? I would not be surprised if something pretty drastic happens.

I agree. HK Police is not really well trained for drastic protest. They tend to over-react and escalate the global concern.

I think something will happen. HK is another convenient location for protest.
