The NBA is suffering from some major PR damages amidst the playoffs. Tim Donaghy, the referee who was arrested for "fixing games" with the "bookies," told authorities that someone from the NBA board office had instructed them not to call technical fouls on star players because that would affect ratings. He also indicated that referees conspired to make sure that a playoff series in 2002, most believed to be the controversial one involving the Kings and the Lakers, to go the full seven games.
NBA Commissioner David Stern is insisting that Donaghy is the only criminal in the league, and would say anything authorities want to hear to reduce his own sentence. But skeptics are not necessarily so sure - after all, if Stern did not know that Donaghy was purposely calling/not calling fouls to help gambling organizations make a profit, how can he say for certain that no others are involved? Do you think another NBA official would be arrested/charged in 08 with gambling-related charges?

I highly doubt that Donaghy is the only referee NBA personnel that is compromising the games by making/not making certain calls or shaving points. I wouldn't doubt that he gives away more names to the authorities, which mean more arrests would be coming.
