Will AMD Split into 2 Parts by Q2 2008?

AMD has been widely expected to go fabless - or at least to adopt an "asset lite" strategy which would outsource more production to contract fabs. If AMD can get someone to fork over a few billion for its fabs, the company could significantly clean up its ugly balance sheet. It is assumed that the fabs unit will be acquired or invested by another local / foreign company.

Will AMD split into two companies: a chip design company and a contract fab operator by Q2 2008?

AMD hasn't made that move yet. Instead AMD has added yet another quad-core processor aimed at performance-minded customers into its family of products. The new chip still cannot match high-end offerings from Intel Corp., however, may still keep AMD’s loyal customers with the company and increase the firm’s average selling price.

Perhaps they will be more desperate in Q3 2008. What do you think?

The Arabian price already owns 9% of AMD. It's obvious intention to buy out part of this company. It's just a matter if the US senate will allow the deal (for the national security).

btw it announced 10% cut of job today. how sad - it only results 1.6% increase in its stock price.

If AMD gets cheap enough, maybe China or S.Korea will be interested in acquiring it. There is always room for competition with Intel.
