AMD has been widely expected to go fabless - or at least to adopt an "asset lite" strategy which would outsource more production to contract fabs. If AMD can get someone to fork over a few billion for its fabs, the company could significantly clean up its ugly balance sheet. It is assumed that the fabs unit will be acquired or invested by another local / foreign company.
Will AMD split into two companies: a chip design company and a contract fab operator by Q2 2008? inspired by: http://blogs.barrons.com/...

Perhaps they will be more desperate in Q3 2008. What do you think?
