You have probably heard about "her," and may have even seen video clips of the demo of what "she" can do. Aiko is a female robot built by a Ontario scientist Le Trung. Aiko was introduced to the world not too long ago, and has some incredible abilities.

For example, Aiko can distinguish 300 facial expressions, can read, and can even protest against inappropriate touching. In a demonstration, Aiko attempts to swap a hand that was touching her breasts, and protested when the inventor was squeezing her face too hard.

The inventor suggests that the development of Aiko intends to assists seniors who may have difficulty looking after their own daily routines such as feeding. Aiko, with her realistic appearance, can potentially serve as a companion to people as well.

Do you think robots similar to Aiko will be mass-produced and be used in the capacity described above?

there are already non-humonoid robots being used in nursing homes... Aiko is great, but i don't see a humanoid doing the job - aiko's "brain" however - that may be used... aiko as she is? no.

The Japanese really invested their time and money on developing fembots. Kind of freaks me

Homer, this fembot is actually created by a Vietnamese Canadian. To the best of my knowledge, the Japanese have not built a similar fembot (at least, not with the same degree of functionality as Aiko).

The current version of Aiko lacks the ability to move "her" lower body. I think the lower body parts need to be built first...

That said, in order for it to be mass produced, the current model is quite some way away... its movement is still very awkward still.

Now, the inventor is denying it, but if Aiko or its prototype is used as a sex toy, even at its current state, it may prove to be more than adequate for some... so that chance of it being mass-produced for that purpose is probable.
