The women's version of the Wimbledon champion has produced some dominant tennis dynasties over the years: Billy Jean King, Martina Navratilova, and Steffi Graf are among the winners who have won this championship at an early age, and had subsequently dominated the tennis world for years to come.
This year's tournament will probably come with quite a few story lines: can Ana Ivanovic repeat her winning feat from the French Open? Can Maria Sharapova regain her dominant form from the Australia open and win her second Wimbledon crown? Or, would Darina Safina continue her fine form and be a force again, after successfully emerging from the shadows of her brother Marat? Who will win the Wimbledon this year? (rankings are the official WTA rankings released on June 9, the day after the French Open - they are not the tournament's seeds)

Sharapova's biggest problem will be her inconsistency. When she's on top of her game, she's unstoppable on grass. But she is not, and she isn't always the healthiest on the WTA tour either.
Ivanovic is fresh from a French win, and can be a force in England as well. I don't know how her grass game will stack up though, and that's why I'm not predicting an Ivanovic win.
Safina and Venus Williams are my two dark horses - Safina was so good at the French, and Venus always plays well in England. So they can challenge Sharapova and Ivanovic.
