The Hart Trophy is awarded annually to the player who is the most valuable to his team. It is one of the most sought after award of the NHL.
This year features a 3-time nominee plus two first-time nominees: Jarome Iginla, the Calgary Flames captain, led his team in goals (50), assists (48), and points (98). Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins had 47 goals, 56 assists, and 106 points, helping Pittsburgh win its division in a season where Sidney Crosby was sidelined for an extended period. Alex Ovechkin led the entire NHL with 65 goals, 57 assists and 112 points. He has already captured the Art Ross and the Rocket Richard trophy automatically for scoring the most number of goals and recording the most points. Who do you think will win the Hart Trophy this year? Winners would be announced June 12.

Don't let Iginla's stats fool you - Iginla plays in a much tighter Western conference, and he still puts up close to 100 points. The only reason why I don't think he will win is because his team only finished 7th in the conference. Ovechkin, on the other hand, took a team of chumps who finished well off the playoff race last year into the playoffs this year. For that, I think he has an edge on Iginla.
