The federal Liberals lost in the general election on Oct 14. With 26.2% of the popular vote, the Liberals have gained the fewest number of votes (percentage-wise) ever, and the 76 seats won were much fewer than the 95 that were won in 2006.
While Liberal leader Stephane Dion said in the post-election speech that he would stay on to work with the Conservative government, most believe that there would be enormous pressure to make him step down. Some pointed out that if he does not do so, there would be an ugly battle to oust him, which would further damage the Liberals' fortunes. Bob Rae, Michael Ignatieff, and Gerard Kennedy were Dion's chief competitors in the last leadership convention, and all 3 were re-elected as MPs. Ujjal Dosanjh was a former BC premier who can be a dark horse. Justin Trudeau, the eldest son of the late Pierre Trudeau, is deemed the "future" of the Liberals. Should Dion steps down, who would be the next Liberal leader?

That said, both should not be the choice long-term. I actually met Justin Trudeau in the past, and he is an extremely charismatic speaker. He probably will be our prime minister one day, but I don't think he's ready to be the Liberals' leader just yet.
