The "3rd season" of the NHL will begin July 1st when un-restricted free agents would enter the open market and teams can bid for their services without any compensation. This year's class of UFAs include some fairly big names, though of course, not all of them are truly available for every team to pursue for their services.
Among the un-restricted free agent lists are big name players such as Peter Forsberg, Joe Sakic, Pavol Demitra, Marian Hossa, Mats Sundin, Ryan Malone, Doug Weight, Craig Conroy, Kistian Huselius, and Sean Avery, just to name a few. The Vancouver Canucks are rumoured to be extremely interested in the service of Pavol Demitra, who was a former client of current GM, then player agent, Mike Gillis. There were also talks suggesting that the Canucks would like to woo Ryan Malone of the Penguins to join them, though the price tag would be high. Which of the following UFAs do you expect the Canucks to be able to sign first (assuming that they can) by July 15?

The Canucks have just signed Pavol Demitra today, but that's after several others have been signed, so I guess the answer to this prediction should be "another UFA not mentioned here."
On a side note: Mike Peca is an UFA, and he's such a strong two-way player. If his asking price is not too high, I'd love to see him return to Canucksville.
