What is ZiiTrend?

We all know WiMax is coming to town (for most of us living in bigger cities anway). So, it becomes a lot more useful to have a computer built into our cars, so we can navigate, go online, watching YouTube etc. Since Microsoft is the biggest OS provider, let's predict which manufacturer will be the first to partner with MS.

So, is Microsoft Sync considered a "Microsoft OS"? I expect something like online GPS program. But Sync doesn't seem to have it.

I will vote for NO. Sync is too simple to be called an OS. I wonder if you can even build app on top of it. Show me a sync SDK, and I might consider it as a little OS.

well .. it's not a full implementation of OS ... but the first step of MS to monopolize the automotive market.

The Microsoft Sync doesn't seem to be a unique solution. I have seen a Toyota Camry with similar feature. I guess the major difference is that the system has Microsoft's logo on it. I agree that it is the first step for Microsoft to enter the full fledge Automotive OS market.

just curious, why can't they use Unix .. or Linux .. to lower the cost

Because of the Windows brand name among consumers? Imagine Honda trying to sell its "smart car" with the message "Linux built-in". I am sure it won't work as well as "Windows Mobile Automotive Edition built-in". Not a lot of general users have the guts to try Linux no matter how good it is. Not at this point at least.

Benz & BMW !!! haha .. only high-class cars can afford not-so-useful computers in the early phrase.

I think Ford already declare as a partner. But then it might not be the first one to release a "smart car" though.

I think one of the native US manufacturer will do that first. After all, Japanese aren't crazy about Windows powered devices, not to mention cars.
