The free agent market in the NHL officially opens on July 1, 2008. Starting on this day, un-restricted free agents (UFAs) can begin signing with various teams, most likely the highest bidders.
While none of the Canadian teams have the resources of teams like the Detroit Red Wings or the New York Rangers, the salary cap does create a more level-playing field. Teams can sign an unlimited number of UFAs, as long as the team's overall salary falls under the salary cap. Which of the Canadian team do you think will sign the most number (note, we are talking about sheer numbers, not impact players, not salaries offered to these players) of UFAs between the months of July and August (I understand signing can continue after August, but let's just use August as the cut-off for this prediction)?

Calgary: 7; Edmonton: 3; Montreal: 6; Ottawa: 6; Toronto: 6; Vancouver: 9
The Canucks have signed the most number of bodies, but with the exception to Dimitra, they are all fourth-line players or minor-leaguers... :(
