Early in Sep 2007, Microsoft failed in its attempt to get its Office Open XML file standard approved by ISO. And it seems the industry is more in favor of another open file format ODF.     Back in April, the Office Open XML (OOXML) file format specification earned enough votes to gain ratification as an ISO standard. Four nations -- Brazil, India, South Africa and Venezuela -- later filed appeals alleging flaws in the process. Under the ISO process, OOXML was set aside while the appeals were reviewed. Now it appears the ISO is recommending that those appeals be denied.

    So we can now safely say that ISO had approved the standard.

    This is just an almost "open" specifikation. I hope, they don't will get the ISO approve till they don't will open fully this OOXML format.
