Since Android is not really a mobile phone, but a mobile development platform. So, the answer is "after Q1 2008". I didn't pick "never", because never say never.

if gphone is just a third-party (most likely HTC) handset prototype with android OS on board - then it will be Q1 for sure. If we take it literally - it's never, as they clearly stated. And if we take it as ready-to-market handset - it's after Q1 2008

You can say Google Android is actually the next "gPhone". I suggest we close this prediction.

Today, Google broke the rumor about Gphone. It has long been rumored to be working on a new class of free or low-cost advertising-supported mobile phone of its own, popularly known as the "Gphone." Google's Schmidt would not rule out the company developing its own devices but said it had no imminent plans to do so.

I think Google is more interested in have every single US cell phone with its software, than releasing its own cell phone. So, no way there is going to be a gPhone. At least not a hardware product.

Totally agree. Google is big, but not so big that it can compete in such a different arena.

Here is an analyst arguing against the rumor of gPhone. I think he does have a point.

Apple just decide to slash the price of its iPhone 8GB model for $200 USD. That's kind of unusual for Apple. Do you guys think it has anything to do some possible huge competition before Christmas? For instance, like the release of a cheap Google gPhone?

This rumor is getting a bid crazy... saying Google is going to release a sub-$100 USD phone?! that has integrated GPS and google map? Man, if that is ture, then I will be the first person lining up for one.
