Chen Shui-bian, the former president of Taiwan, is currently under custody. He is in custody because of allegations for embezzlement and money laundering. Reports indicated that millions of dollars were shipped out of the country through his various relatives to European and South American countries.

Chen and some of his close supporters protested that the whole allegation - custody - charges, etc., are all parts of a political persecution plan executed by president Ma Ying-Jeou. In response to this, Chen has gone on a hunger strike.

Due to dehydration, Chen has been hospitalized already.

The hunger strike itself obviously has a political goal... what do you think will be the outcome of his hunger strike?

The guy probably did commit many of the crimes he has been accused of. Having said that, he is a master in manipulating popular opinion, and now, he is using his own body to fire back at the justice system that seemingly is assuming guilt even though the trial has not started. Knowing Ma Ying-Jeou and his calmer way of doing things, he may be granted bail to await trial...
