What will happen in response to LPGA's rule for all players to speak English?
black-shoulder ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) black-shoulder  |  was scored on 01-Oct-2008 (415 days ago)
In what is certainly going to be a controversial move, the LPGA has announced that all players must learn and pass a proficiency test for speaking English by the end of 2009, or the players would face possible suspension, or even a removal for their tour card (hence, the eligibility to play in an LPGA event).

Many fans and media people are infuriated with this new rule. So far, no golfers have offered an opinion on the issue.

Currently, there are over 100 players on the LPGA tour that are internationals, with the biggest group from South Korea.

What do you think will happen in response to this rule?

Although there were "some" pretest, they were never public or massive. And there was no formation of new league, and not to mention revoking of the new rule.

Looks like "Nothing will happen" is the closest outcome.

Don't think it will be a "massive" protests. But I am sure the players will have something to say about this.

My understanding is that Korean's level of English proficiency is no match to players from let's say European countries. This rule is really unfair.

This rule is ridiculous, not to mention bigotry. But racism is not new in the world of golf... I can understand why they want to encourage players to learn English for TV and other promotional reasons, but making it mandatory?

Does that mean that the WTA should impose a rule that all female players should learn to speak Russian because many of the highest-ranked players are Russian? Or the international gymnastic federation forcing its athletes to learn Chinese/Russian/Romanian?

I hope many players would stand up and take a stance to force to LPGA to revoke this terrible rule.

The only benefit of this new rule is the cost saving in hiring fewer translators. But then the cost saving will be off set by all the new PR spending to fix the bad image caused by this stupid rules.

At the end, I have no idea what this rule is designed for.

You're right... Option #5 should be "#2 and #4." I will ask the admin to change it.

Protests by players and fans. This is strange. Why force people to learn the English language? So, are we saying golfing is more English than Korean?

Question. Something is not right about the fifth option "#2 then #5", I think you mean "#2 then #4" right?
