The Toronto Blue Jays will have a new manager by July 1, 2008

The Toronto Blue Jays are having a bad year and I suspect this will continue and that heads will fall, before July 1, 2008, so that they will try and salvage the season. I predict that John Gibbons their manager will be fired. I would like the closing date to come a little before the date so that there can be a true prediction, since it requires people to make an educated guess in advance of the deadline date.

John Gibbons has just been fired, and replaced by former Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston, the man who took the Jays to back-to-back world series titles in 92 and 93. I think the answer to this prediction needs to be altered.

It's not the Jays' fault that they play in the most competitive division in MLB, the AL East. That said, there is still not a reason why they should be in the AL East basement, looking up to not just the Yankees and the Red Sox, but the Rays and the Orioles as well.

That said, Gibbons is not the guy batting out there. The pitching staff is holding on, and has pitched quite well (before Saturday's loss, Roy Holladay had four complete games without a win), and is one of the best in the league. The bats are not coming around... and Vernon Wells is hurt... I think they may go for a trade - Jeremy Accardo was an effective closer last year in place of the injured B.J. Ryan, and now that Ryan is back, maybe they will trade one of those guys to get some hitting.
