Sarah Palin will win the VP debate with Joe Biden
kousejmne ( Score Rank: User did not make predictions in the last 30 days ) kousejmne  |  closed on 03-Oct-2008 (50 days ago)
Expectations for Sarah Palin are particularly negative as we head into the vice-presidential debate on Thursday. Have expectations sunk so low that she need only do an 'average' job to win? Or will she potentially show herself to be a much better debater than people suppose and surprise everyone? Or will she lose by giving a repeat version of her disastrous performance with Couric -- one that has some prominent conservative commentators calling for her to voluntarily leave the ticket for the good of the Republican Party. In other words: Will Sarah Palin be perceived to be the winner against Joe Biden on Thursday night?

Agreed. It is not possible to verify the result.

I am just wondering: how do we verify a "winner" in a debate? It's not like debating competitions where there are judges to actually decide a winner. The supporters of each party (which includes the media) would probably have a decided winner before the debate has even started.

Expectations of her are so low, I believe she has a good chance of 'winning' by merely surviving. Biden, too, is known for putting his foot in his mouth. He could make a mistake that hands victory to Palin on a platter. But the main factor is, the level of negative perception of Palin is so great that the media will be ready for an about-face and will judge her to have done 'surprisingly well' -- as long as she doesn't absolutely trash herself.
