PS4 announced in 2008.

There had been numerous speculations if PS4 announcement is just around the corner (in 2008). Here is an example:
http://www.gamepro.com/ne...

Do you think we will be hearing from Sony in 2008 about the next version of PS3 (let's call it PS4 for now)? As long as Sony make any official announcement about the next version or replacement of PS3, we will consider the prediction true.

Seems like this prediction was closed a month too early.

I agree that it PS4 won't be announced in 2008. Sony isn't so stupid to risk PS3 sales with some new console announcement.

The console market requires several years between versions, so Sony would be dumb to announce the next version already.

Sony is trying to make PS3 more attractive. I think a new version announcement will distract its potential customer from PS3.

I think PS3 still has at least 5 years life span, and a new PS4 won't be announced in another 2-3 years. Since the physical size of PS3 is so big now, I expect Sony to release a slim version first.

Isn't it great to have PS3 to have the same size as the PS2 original version?

They are still making new games for PS2 and the transition into PS3 is not even completed, how would Sony go into a next-next generation game console so quickly? I don't see it happening at all. Maybe a minor add-on to the existing PS3 to make it even more powerful (increased hard drive, more wireless capabilities, etc...), but not a new console altogether.

No way! But it is an interesting rumor though.

It might be too early for a PS4 announcement. But I won't be surprised to hear Sony talking about a prototype. Sony had been lacking of positive news lately. Currently, Sony's focus is to boost the PS3 sales against X360 in NA. So, announcing PS4 won't help.
