According to TechCrunch, there are rumors of a Google powered virtual world based on Google Earth surfaced in January; today there is word that Google may be testing their virtual world at Arizona State University.

    no Virtual World service was officially launched in 2007... I would love to see it in 2008 though.

    Not only that, Tony.
    My opinion is:
    The only reason for google to start up an SL-like thing is their possible desire to explore the future of 3d browsing. I think its too early, and google will do something like that in early 2008, if they will ever do so.
